NVIDIA Releases RTX Remix 1.6 With DLSS 5 and Experimental Minecraft Java Edition Support
NVIDIA has released RTX Remix 1.6, adding DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, up to 6X Multi Frame Generation, Windows on ARM support, new AI asset tools, and experimental RTX Remix support for Minecraft Java Edition. The release is available through GitHub and the NVIDIA App.

NVIDIA has released a major update for its open-source RTX Remix modding platform, which lets developers and community modders modernize classic PC games with full path-traced lighting, upgraded assets, physically based materials and modern RTX technologies. RTX Remix 1.6 is available through GitHub and the NVIDIA App.
The release adds DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, which NVIDIA says uses AI to enhance lighting and material appearance while taking the game's underlying geometry, textures and lighting information into account, alongside new artistic controls in the RTX Remix Toolkit: three model selections, highlight and volumetric adjustments and per-material control masks. NVIDIA has demonstrated DLSS 5 in community projects including Fallout 4 RTX and Mirror's Edge RTX, and says the former benefits from improved reflections, material depth and lighting responses while the latter features more convincing contact shadows and ambient occlusion.
Performance additions include the DLSS Frame Generation Performance Mode (Preset C), which uses a lighter, faster algorithm to reduce frame generation overhead at the expense of some image quality; NVIDIA previously reported improvements of up to 35% with this mode on the GeForce RTX 5060, a figure the report notes is not specific to RTX Remix. RTX Remix 1.6 also introduces 5X and 6X Multi Frame Generation on supported GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, with the caveat that generated frames do not increase the game's underlying simulation rate or responsiveness in the same way as natively rendered frames. Other rendering enhancements include Sparse Rendering and support for OpenEXR HDR texture ingestion and HDR skybox processing.
RTX Remix support arrives for Minecraft Java Edition through a new Fabric-based mod that brings the path-traced renderer to Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1, using an API-based rendering pipeline rather than the platform's conventional legacy-game rendering interception. NVIDIA also developed a PBR texture resource pack and collaborated with BlockWorks on a demonstration map. The mod is available on GitHub, but NVIDIA cautions that it remains an early beta: compatibility with other mods is limited, some blocks, environments and gameplay situations may exhibit visual or performance issues, and the release targets Java Edition 1.21.1 rather than every version.
The update also brings ComfyUI Integration 2.0, replacing previous AI asset tools with more flexible workflows for generating and processing textures and meshes, plus a headless Toolkit implementation and improved Model Context Protocol integration. On hardware, the RTX Remix Runtime now supports Windows on ARM with native ARM64 and ARM64EC builds; NVIDIA specifically confirms support for Portal with RTX, the Half-Life 2 RTX Demo and Minecraft RTX Remix Beta on compatible systems, including RTX Spark devices. Further optimizations include faster Toolkit startup, improved Stage Manager responsiveness, reduced CPU overhead for static draw calls, lower GPU memory allocations for unused rendering features, and an optimization that selects the TraceRay implementation by default on Windows for AMD GPU users, where NVIDIA cites community-reported gains of roughly 20%, from 53 FPS to 63 FPS, using AMD driver 26.6.4, with results varying by hardware and game. The minimum supported NVIDIA driver version is now 616.92.
